Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility attains 1 million annual capacity with the start of production at fourth plant

Hansalpur /New Delhi, 30 July 2026: Maruti Suzuki India Limited (“Maruti Suzuki”) today commenced commercial production at the fourth plant (Plant D) of its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. The fourth plant, with annual capacity of 250,000 units, enhanced Hansalpur facility’s total annual production capacity from 750,000 units to 1 million units. This marks the first time in Suzuki’s history that the total annual production capacity at a single manufacturing facility has reached 1 million units. It also makes Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location.
With Hansalpur Plant D, Maruti Suzuki’s total manufacturing capacity stands at 2.9 million units per annum. The cumulative investment at the Hansalpur facility stands at INR 252,887 million (INR 25,288.7 crore). This includes estimated investment of INR 39,000 million (INR 3,900 crore) for Plant D. The new plant will initially produce the Company’s flagship Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA.
The state‑of‑the‑art Hansalpur facility produces FRONX, Baleno, Swift and e VITARA. The facility has emerged as a major export hub for the Company, accounting for nearly 47% of its overall overseas shipments in FY 2025-26.

Speaking on the expansion, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Gujarat has emerged as a manufacturing and export hub for Maruti Suzuki, backed by strong infrastructure and a progressive industrial ecosystem. The start of commercial production at the fourth plant of our Hansalpur facility augments its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, making it India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location. The new line will further strengthen our ability to meet the growing demand from customers in India and overseas while advancing our ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision and expanding our global footprint.”
He added, “Together, the Hansalpur and the upcoming Sanand facility in Gujarat will play a pivotal role in achieving our long-term ambition of producing 4 million units annually in India. These projects reflect our commitment to strengthening India’s manufacturing competitiveness, creating employment, boosting exports, and contributing towards Viksit Bharat.”

Green Logistics
In a first, as part of Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to drive sustainable logistics, the Company commissioned India’s first automobile in-plant railway siding at its Hansalpur facility in March 2024 under the Prime Minister’s GatiShakti programme. Maruti Suzuki has cumulatively dispatched over 750,000 vehicles since the start of dispatches in March 2023, reducing CO2 emissions, fuel consumption in vehicle transportation and easing overall road congestion. In February 2026, the Gujarat in-plant railway siding became the World’s First Modal Shift Transportation Project to be registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (“VCS”) program.
Maruti Suzuki’s CSR efforts at Gujarat
The Company undertakes various initiatives as part of its CSR in the vicinity of its manufacturing facilities. The CSR initiatives span across Road Safety, Skill Development and Community Development efforts such as education, healthcare, and rural development.
Upskilling the local youth
To strengthen the local manufacturing and talent pool, Maruti Suzuki has set up two Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) in Gujarat at Mehsana and Gandhinagar. A collaborative initiative between India and Japan governments, more than 1,200 students have been trained across these two JIMs.
In partnership with the Government of Gujarat, the Company is also establishing Advanced Manufacturing Labs (AMLs) at five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Godhra, and Dahod. These labs will replicate a real-world shop-floor environment and equip youth with industry-relevant skills in advanced manufacturing. Further expansion is also being planned.
Automobile Skill Enhancement Centers (ASEC) have been set up at three Government ITIs at Ahmedabad, Surat, and Dhoraji, providing training support to students in automobile trades.
Additionally, High Voltage training course for EV and HEV is being conducted for students across nine ITIs set up in Gandhinagar, Gandhidham, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Mehsana, Jamnagar, Godhra, Bhuj, and Vadodara.
Along with the Government of Gujarat, Maruti Suzuki has set up International Automobile Centre of Excellence (iACE), Gandhinagar. It is an apex body for skill development in the automotive sector, utilising modern technology & systems. The centre has the capacity to train 5,000 students annually in both vehicle manufacturing & servicing.
School
The Company set up a modern CBSE English medium schoolin Sitapur, Gujarat in partnership with Podar Education Network in 2021. The school provides high-quality education to students from local villages. Currently, more than 800 students are studying in the school.
Hospital
Maruti Suzuki established a multi-specialty hospitalat Sitapur in 2021 in partnership with Zydus group of hospitals (Ramanbhai Foundation). The hospital has transformed healthcare in the region, providing affordable and advanced tertiary care to more than 1.5 lakh people from 400+ nearby villages since inception. The hospital is accredited with NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers) certification and conferred the gold quality certification by the Quality Council of India.
Community Development
Maruti Suzuki continues to improve the quality of life through development projects in 26 villages adjoining the Maruti Suzuki facility. These projects span across water, sanitation, education, health, women & child healthcare, tree plantation drive, installation of CCTV surveillance for better security and other community infrastructure.
Road Safety
Maruti Suzuki has imparted driving training to over 60,000 individuals through All Gujarat Institute of Driving, Technical Training & Research (AGIDTTR), Vadodara.
